I know I am kinda late to the conversation, but when I need to split something, the design software I use, D works well.
It is a work in progress but I have printed all the parts and assembled them. Once happy I used super glue to keep them permanently in place but it wasn't necessary as I had to tap the tongue and groove pieces together. Takes a bit of playing around but I was able to print them and slide them together to make a single large plate. Problem I had is my delta printer is size limited when it comes to wide printing of large parts. What I like to do is to copy the object, then paste it, then with the extra, cut the half, then do the same with the original. If little scratches of the piece that was cut with the holed duplicate, just use a regular shape from the menu and hole that away. Also, clicking "edit grid" will help you to stay within the parameters of the printer you want. Use that on its proper position on the other model.
